2023 - Jones Horan auction, 20 Jul 2023, est $1-1,300, "Haas, Swiss, 44mm, 18K gold OF original case with enameled "G I M" initials to rear, crown with dark blue cabochon, inner rear engraved "Carrie Guggenheim, Xmas 1915, to George I. Mason," gilt dial, SW-SS, lever escapement, 17J, fausses-cĂ´tes pattern nickel damascene, s#64100. Gross weight of assembled watch 31.0 dwt (48.2 g). An elegant men's dress watch with an interesting provenance; Carrie Guggenheim was married to Isaac Guggenheim who was the eldest son of Meyer Guggenheim. Meyer Guggenheim was the patriarch of the Guggenheim family who were to become some of the wealthiest American residents of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The recipient of this watch, George I. Mason, was the personal secretary for Carrie Guggenheim per a January 13th, 1925 article found in "The Brooklyn Daily Eagle" newspaper; please see the final photo for an image of this article. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, mild toning of plate surfaces, some scattered small fine to micro-fine scratches, few very small surface spots, mild oxide to portions of regulator assembly; dial excellent in visible portion with few small fine scratches, removing bezel reveals some perimeter scrapes and marks; excellent hands, finish loss to tip of minute; case shows little wear, scattered fine scratches and few small nicks, rear enameling fully intact with some surface scratches; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal."
